I cut premium quality pine to 4" x 5 1/2" and it is 3/4" thick. All sides are painted a rich satin finish high quality paint. The design is printed and permanently adhered. I have blended the design into the block with more paint for a high quality piece. The edges are sanded slightly for a worn look.
